When Faith Is Little, God Is Still Mighty
Many people believe they need a strong and perfect faith before God can work through them. However, the Bible reveals that even a small amount of genuine faith can accomplish great things when it is placed in the hands of an almighty God. Faith is not powerful because of its size; faith is powerful because of the One in whom it trusts.
Jesus taught this truth when His disciples struggled with doubt. In Matthew 17:20, He said, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." A mustard seed was one of the smallest seeds known at that time, yet Jesus used it to show that small faith connected to God's power can overcome great obstacles.
The story of David and Goliath demonstrates how God works through ordinary people who trust Him. David was young, inexperienced in battle, and faced a powerful warrior, but he did not depend on his own strength. He declared, "The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine" (1 Samuel 17:37). David's confidence came from knowing that God was greater than the challenge before him.
Small faith does not mean a lack of struggles or questions. Even the disciples experienced moments of fear and uncertainty. Yet Jesus patiently strengthened their faith and continued to use them for His purpose. God does not require perfect faith; He desires a willing heart that trusts Him.
When we feel weak, we can remember the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9: "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness." Our limitations create an opportunity for God's power to be revealed.
Never underestimate what God can do through a person who places even a little faith in Him. A small prayer, a simple act of obedience, or a quiet trust in God's promises can become the beginning of a great testimony. Faith may start small, but when it rests in a mighty God, nothing is impossible.
